Changes of the prevalence of dyslipidemia of elderly retirees of a coastal county in Zhejiang Province in 2008 and 2014

  • ObjectiveTo explore the changes of the prevalence of dyslipidemia for the retirees aged 60 and above of a coastal county in Zhejiang Province based on the retrospective analysis for the lipid profiles thereof in 2008 and in 2014, respectively.
MethodsBy adopting a cross-sectional investigation and research method, the lipid profiles from the health examinations made in 2008 and in 2014, respectively for the above-mentioned retirees were collected, via age-grouping and year-stratifying therefor, to make statistics on the prevalence of high total cholesterol(TC), high triglyceride(TG), low high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and high low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) of the retirees of these groups as well as the number of people with dyslipidemia.
ResultsThe prevalences of high TC, high TG, low HDL-C, high LDL-C, dyslipidemia for elderly male and female retirees of the coastal county in Zhejiang Province in 2008 were 11.2%, 10.2%, 2.1%, 5.9%, 23.3% and 18.9%, 10.2%, 2.3%, 13.8%, 33.3%, respectively; the prevalences of high TC, high TG, low HDL-C, high LDL-C, dyslipidemia for elderly male and female retirees of a coastal county in Zhejiang Province in 2014 were 22.0%, 5.9%, 1.3%, 10.6%, 27.6% and 35.4%, 7.5%, 1.1%, 18.2%, 40.0%, respectively. Compared with the relevant profiles in 2008, the prevalences of high TC, high LDL-C and dyslipidemia thereof in 2014 increased, and the prevalences of high TG and low HDL-C thereof in 2014 decreased.
ConclusionThe prevalence of dyslipidemia of the elderly retirees of the said coastal county in Zhejiang Province is relatively high, with high TC acting as the most important manifestation for the prevalence of dyslipidemia thereof, and with high LDL-C acting as the next important manifestation for the prevalence of dyslipidemia thereof. Compared with the relevant profiles in 2008, the prevalence of dyslipidemia thereof in 2014 showed an upward trend, and urgent measures need to be taken to control the blood lipid levels thereof.
