Current status of reproductive health literacy among menopausal women in some districts of Shanghai

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the level of reproductive health literacy and its relevant factors among menopausal women in Shanghai.
    MethodsA total of 1 499 menopausal women from 8 districts of Shanghai were investigated by reproductive health literacy questionnaire for their level status. Kruskal-Wallis test was used to analyze the influencing factors.
    ResultsThe average age of the 1 499 subjects was (49.80±5.48) years.The average score of literacy was 68.62, with the median being 71.07.The average score of each question was in the range of 1.68~3.78, and the full score ratio was 0.050~0.893.The score of applying dimension was relatively good, and that of acquisition dimension relatively poor.Nonparametic rank sum test analysis showed that there were significant differences in scores of health literacy between different groups of age, household registration, residence, occupation status, education level and income level (P < 0.05), except national and marital status.
    ConclusionThe menopausal women in Shanghai have difficulty in obtaining reproductive health information and resources but they can utilize health care relatively well.Age, household registration, residence, occupation status, education level and income level may be related factors for reproductive health literacy level of menopausal women in Shanghai.
