Influence factor analysis on incidence of COPD in Zhuqiao Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai

ObjectiveIn order to strengthen health management of COPD patients, we analyzed the influencing factors for COPD incidence in smokers in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, so as to provide scientific basis for developing targeted prevention and control measures in the future.

MethodsIn 2017, 100 smokers with COPD were randomly sampled from the health records of Zhuqiao Town, Pudong New Area.For 1 : 2 matched case-control study was selected 200 smokers without COPD.The matching conditions were the same sex and the age of ±3 years old in Zhuqiao Town of Pudong New Area.Questionnaires were designed on all the subjects, and the factors related to the incidence of COPD in smokers analyzed by single factor and multiple factor Logistic regression analysis.

ResultsBetween the case group and the control group, there were three differences found in the years of smoking, the age of starting smoking, and the number of cigarettes smoked per day (P < 0.05).Pudong New Area analysed influence factors of the incidence of COPD of smokers, and selected 4 factors:smoking age (over 20 years) (OR=1.742, P=0.018), the number of cigarettes smoked per day (more than 20) (OR=1.544, P=0.021), the price of tobacco (less than 20 yuan / bag) (OR=1.645, P=0.024), and once having pneumonia (OR=1.452, P=0.037).

ConclusionThe incidence of COPD in Zhuqiao town of Pudong New Area proves to be mainly related to the smoking years, number of cigarettes smoked a day, price of tobacco, and once suffering from pneumonia.In future, it is imperative to carry out health education intervention among smokers in relation to these COPD related factors, which can play a role in guiding prevention of COPD in smokers.
