Comparison and analysis of fasting blood glucose at different altitude areas in physical examination population

  • ObjectiveTo compare the difference of fasting blood glucose(FBG) levels between healthy people living in plateau and plain areas so as to further explore the influencing factors of blood glucose.
MethodsThree hundred and eighty nine subjects from Guoluo Region of Qinghai and 548 subjects from physical examination in Jinshan District of Shanghai were randomly selected.By t-test and Chi-square(χ2) test were compared the differences of age, nationalities, FBG, fasting insulin, waist circumference, body mass index between the highland group and plains group.By Logistic regressions, the influencing factors were analyzed for elevated FBG.
ResultsFBG levels of people living in highland were lower than those living in plain areas. The levels of fasting insulin, waist circumference, body mass index and blood uric acid were higher in highland(all P < 0.05).The results of logistic regressions demonstrated that four factors were related to FBG elevation, including highland, age, waist circumference and fasting insulin(all P < 0.05).
ConclusionFBG of people living in highland areas are lower than that of those in plain areas. It is proved that highland, age, waist circumference and fasting insulin are associated with FBG.There was no significant relationship found between body mass index and FBG.
