Body fat ratio based on bioelectrical impedance method applied in screening obesity in community diabetic patients

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the consistency between(body fat ratio, BFR) and(body mass index, BMI) in the determination of obesity.
MethodsThe bioelectrical impedance method was used to determine the BFR in 472 community-based diabetics.BMI was calculated by height and weight. The accuracy and validity of the BFR were evaluated by ROC curves.
ResultsThe prevalence of obesity and overweight was 14.8% and 41.5% respectively. There was no statistical difference found in BMI between male and female. The Kappa Value for the whole population was 0.206, while the Kappa Value for female diabetics was 0.469.Seeing from ROC curve, it was found that in the whole population, BFR did not have well consistency with BMI.In the female population, BFR had good consistency with BMI.
ConclusionThe prevalence of obesity and BFR are high in diabetes patients. The BFR is consistent with BMI in women with diabetes.
