Probiotic preparation in treatment of chronic constipation:its clinic regimen and strategy

  • ObjectiveTo explore the microecological treatment scheme and strategy of slow transit constipation (STC).
MethodsClinical data from 327 patients were retrospectively analyzed who came to the microecology clinic of Shanghai 10th people′s hospital for constipation from June 2017 to December 2018, of whom 286 cases of STC were with confirmed diagnosis; among them 76 cases were treated with microecological therapy alone, 176 cases with microecological therapy combined with permeable laxatives, and 34 cases with high dose probiotics transplantation.
ResultsOf all 286 cases of slow transit constipation, 214 were effectively treated and the effectiveness rate was 74.82%.The follow-up time was 1 to 12 months, and the median time was 2 months. For patients with disease course < 5 years, irritating laxatives < 2 years and Wexner score >20, there was no significant difference between treatment effect of pribiotics used alone and pribiotics combined with osmotic laxative. For those with disease course of 5-20 years, irritating laxatives 2-5 years, Wexner score 15-20, it was found that the treatment effect from probiotics combined with osmotic laxative was superior to that of probiotics used alone. For those with disease course >20 years, irritating laxatives >5 years, Wexner score >20, the treatment effect of high dose probiltics proved superior to those in the previous two groups(P < 0.05)
ConclusionThe effect of microecological treatment for STC proves to be significantly correlated to the course of disease, duration of long-term stimulant laxatives taking and Wexner scores, in accordance which we can determine the severity of STC.And by adopting different treating regimens according to various conditions, we can effectively improve the therapeutic effect on STC.
