Effect evaluation of health education intervention on knowledge awareness rate of tuberculosis prevention among residents in Songjiang District

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of health education intervention on improving the awareness rate of core knowledge of tuberculosis prevention among residents in Songjiang District.
    MethodsUsing stratified cluster sampling, we investigated 1 575 residents aged ≥15 years in 15 communities in Songjiang District. Questionnaire investigation was made on knowledge, belief and behavior in relation to tuberculosis control before the intervention in 2013 and after it in 2018.
    ResultsBefore the intervention, the overall awareness rate of five core knowledge on TB was 57.40% in residents of Songjiang District. This awareness rate was significantly increased to 75.32% after the intervention.
    ConclusionAfter health education intervention, the overall awareness rate of core knowledge is increased to 75.32% among residents in Songjiang District, and this study highlights the significance of early detection of tuberculosis patients and timely standardized treatment for them.
