Extended detection situation on AIDS and syphilis in patients with sexually transmitted diseases in Shanghai from 2016 to 2018

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of HIV and syphilis testing in sexually transmitted disease (STD) patients in Shanghai.
    MethodsDescriptive statistic data was collected to analyze the effect of HIV and syphilis testing for first diagnosed STD patients in 25 hospitals with STD clinics in Shanghai.
    ResultsHIV testing rate (85.1%) and testing positive rate (0.6%), syphilis testing rate (67.1%) and testing positive rate (2.4%) were increased from 2016 to 2018.Patients from STD department had the highest HIV testing rate (87.4%, 10 013/11 459), syphilis testing rate (70.8%, 3 961/5 592) and testing positive rate (2.4%, 94/3 961).First diagnosed syphilis patients had the highest HIV testing rate (90.5%, 5 620/6 213) and testing positive rate (0.9%, 51/5 620).
    ConclusionPropaganda and intervention should be strengthened, and doctor's awareness about testing promoting should be enhanced and supportive environment provided to promote HIV and syphilis testing further in STD clinics.
