Research progress on sugar-sweetened beverages intake and interventions to reduce intake among children and adolescents

  • With the increase of Chinese residents' beverage consumption year by year, children's consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages(SSBs) is becoming more and more common. Excessive consumption of SSBs can be harmful to children's health and increase the risk of many chronic diseases. This paper reviews recent research progress on sugar-sweetened beverage intake and interventions to reduce SSBs intake among children and adolescents. Although the consumption of SSBs by children and adolescents in China has been on the rise, there have been few studies on health intervention in this regard. It is suggested to carry out more health intervention for children and adolescents, to reduce the intake of SSBs.
