Probucol treatment for early diabetic nephropathy:Clinical observation on 106 cases

Objective To observe the efficacy of Probucol treatment for early diabetic nephropathy through trace urinary albumin. Methods One hundred and six patients with diabetic nephropathy were randomly allocated into conventional therapy group and Probucol group, 53 cases in each. The conventional therapy group was given conventional therapy(adjusting blood sugar, cutting down blood fat,suppressing platelet aggregation and so on); the Probucol group on the basis of the conventional therapy was given Probucol 500mg for oral use twice a day. All the patients were treated 3 months.Fasting blood glucose, triglyeride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, reactive protein C, fibrinogen and trace urinary albumin in the two groups were observed before and after treatment. Results The blood glucose,blood fat and trace urinary albumin were decreased in both groups after treatment (P<0.05). There were significant differences in reactive protein C, fibrinogen and trace urinary albumin between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusion There was no significant difference in blood glucose, blood fat and trace urinary albumin between the two groups after therapy (P>0.05); The treatment combined with Probucol can decrease the levels of trace urinary albumin on the basis of conventional therapy and is an effective method for early diabetic nephropathy.
