Colorectal cancer status and trend analysis in Chongming County,Shanghai

Objective To investigate the incidence and trend of colorectal cancer in Chongming County from 2002to 2011, and to explore strategy and measure in prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.Methods Colorectal cancer was analyzed and calculated in its time trend, affected population distribution and regional distribution.Results The standardized incidence of colorectal cancer was found to have increased from 18.54/100 000 in 2002 to 23.18/100 000 in 2011, the average rise for one of the ten years being 2.51%.And the average standardized incidence of colorectal cancer was 19.87/100 000 in 2002-2011.The incidence increased with age both in males and females. Starting from the age of 50, the incidence rose markedly and reached the peak at ages of 80-84. And the incidence was obviously higher in males than in females, and a little higher in the towns than in the countryside.Conclusion The incidence of colorectal cancer was found to be on the rise in Chongming County, ranking third in all tumor incidences. It is one of the major malignant tumors affecting the health of the residents of the County. The work in prevention and control of the cancer should be actively carried out.
