Observation on the effect of community intervention on metabolic syndrome

  • Objective To explore an appropriate method for intervention, prevention and control of metabolic syndrome (MS) in community and improve its effect in control of MS. Methods According to the criteria of MS given by Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS), 328 people who met the criteria were randomly divided into strengthened intervention group and general intervention group.Changes in fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure and lipids, urine protein, and BMI index were observed before and after the intervention. Results There was 181 people in strengthened intervention group and 147 people in general group. There were significant differences between the two groups in fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, abnormal glucose regulation vesting, blood pressure and lipids.Changes in albumin in the urine and BMI was not significant. Conclusion Enhanced community-based intervention can reduce the MS associated with diabetes blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin level, can reduce blood pressure in those with high blood pressure, regulate blood lipid disorders, may reduce glycated hemoglobin and reduce diabetes morbidity.
