Epidemiological survey of the animal-bitten cases in Pudong New Area of Shanghai

  • Objective To ascertain the epidemiological features of the animal-bitten cases and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and treatment of animal bites.Methods Animal-bitten cases in Pudong New Area of Shanghai were collected, and case investigation method was applied to survey and analyze individual information, animal bite prevention knowledge and bites situation among local residents.Results In Pudong New Area, 7.1% of the residents raised pets,mainly dogs and cats. The incidence of animal bites was 0.6%, while the knowledge rate on prevention of animal bites was only about 60% among residents.Conclusion Strengthening pet-breeding management and health education on animal bites will effectively reduce the incidence rate of animal bites and improve the prognosis.
