Investigation on HBsAg positive rate found among blood donors in 2009-2011,Shanghai Fengxian District

  • Objective To ascertain characters and situation of HBsAg infection found in blood donors in Fengxian District of Shanghai so as to prevent HBV transmitted through transfusion. Methods Data were downloaded and analyzed on HBsAg infection in group appointment blood donors from 2009 to 2011 from ‘Shanghai blood collection and supply information system’. Results A total of 437 HBsAg positive blood donors were found among 20,019 group appointment blood donors (2.18%), of whom the positive rate of male donors was 2.79% and that of female donors 1.32%. HBsAg positive rate in male blood donors was higher than that in female donors. The HBsAg positive rate of 18 to 20 years old group was the highest (3.06%), and the positive rate of 51 to 60 years old group was the lowest (0.71%).The positive rate had decreasing trend as donors' age increased. Conclusion HBsAg positive rate in male blood donors was significantly higher than that in female donors. Intervention measures as selection of safe blood donors and others can significantly decrease the positive rate of HBsAg found in donors.
