Indicative polychlorinated biphenyls in market seafood of Shanghai and dietary exposure assessment

  • Objective To analyze the concentration of indicative polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in market seafood of Shanghai and assess the dietary exposure of the citizens. Methods Indicative PCBs in seafood were determined with GC - MS. The GEMS/food database were consulted for the seafood consumption of Shanghai population. Results The detection rate of seven indicative PCBs was 47.5% ,The rain. - max. level of ∑7 ( PCBs), PCB138 and PCB153 were 0.20 - 8.56, 0. 20 - 6.40 and 0.21 - 4.60 μg/kg wet weight respectively. The estimated dietary intake of ∑7 ( PCBs ) for Shanghai citizens was 32.0 ng/standard person per day. Conclusion The levels of seven indicative PCBs in Shanghai market seafood are low. The maximum concentration of ∑7 (PCBs), PCB138 and PCB153 in all samples are within the national limits. The estimated dietary intakes of ∑7 (PCBs) for Shanghai citizen were not higher than that in other areas.
