Morbidity and mortality of stroke among residents in Fengxian District of Shanghai, 2016

  • ObjectiveTo ascertain morbidity and mortality of stroke among residents in Fengxian District of Shanghai, and to provide a basis for relevant departments to formulate strategies for stroke control and prevention.
    MethodsThe information on morbidity and mortality of stroke in the region was collected by the information system, which was established by monitoring cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and the accuracy of the disease information was investigated and audited by community health care staff.
    ResultsThe incidence of stroke among residents in Fengxian District was 387.78/104 in 2016, and the mortality rate was 104.49/104; the incidence and mortality of stroke increased with age in both sexes after 40 years old, which in males were higher than in females between age groups, and the seasonal distribution was not obvious in morbidity and mortality; cerebral infarction was the main type of stroke(83.66%), among all the cerebrovascular diseases, the fatality rate of intracerebral hemorrhage was the highest(45.55%), which was higher in males than in females.
    ConclusionRelevant departments should continue to strengthen health education of stroke for community residents, and focus on the risk of morbidity among high age groups and male population.
