Central obesity and its related factors in adults in Ruian City

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of central obesity and related factors in adults in the city of Ruian, aiming to provide the basis for the formulation of intervention policies.
    MethodsA multi-stage random sampling method was used to survey 3 974 people in 5 towns, including a total of 10 villages, in the city of Ruian.The questionnaire adopted in the study included three parts: inquiry, physical examination and laboratory test, and the detection rate of central obesity was calculated.Logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors.
    ResultsThe detection rate of central obesity was 55.71%, 51.21% in males and 58.91% in females.According to standardization of the population of the sixth census in Zhejiang Province and the sex composition ratio, the detection rate of central obesity was 46.58%, of which 46.02% were males and 47.17% females.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the related factors were female, advanced age, low educational level, less active exercise, less physical labor, travel mainly by car.
    ConclusionThe detection rate of central obesity is higher in adults in the city of Ruian.Relevant control policies and measures should be introduced as soon as possible, and health education on prevention and control carried out for residents.
