hand, foot and mouth disease and its pathogen distribution characteristics in 2008-2016 in Yongjia County of Zhejiang Province

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) and its pathogen distribution in Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province, and to provide scientific basis for prevention and health care work against HFMD.
MethodsYongjia County disease surveillance information reporting system was used to collect data on HFMD cases in 2008—2016.The seasonal characteristics of the disease in relation to age of onset, sex difference and pathogen distribution were analyzed.
ResultsA total of 27 815 cases of HFMD were reported in Yongjia County between 2008 and 2016.The onset time showed to be bimodal, reaching peaks in early summer and in autumn. The incidence in male was higher than that in female. The age distribution was concentrated in children at the age of 1 ~5, especially at 1 ~3.Except for the predominance of EV71 (59.62%) in 2011, now other enteroviruses were in dominance in recent years. The ratio of EV71 to all detected enteroviruses was down to less than 10% in 2015 and 2016.
ConclusionThe epidemic status for HFMD shows the seasonal phenomenon in Yongjia country. The age distribution in patients was concentrated in childten at 1 ~5.The ratio of EV71 to all the detected enteroviruses declined in recent years.
