Exploration and practice in ability cultivation mode for general practitioners in community health service center

  • ObjectiveThrough occupational ability training for the general practitioners(GPs) in Weifang Community Health Service Center of Shanghai, to explore appropriate mode and methods for the development of the GPs′ abilities.
MethodsBy ways of literature review and group discussion was formulated 3-year ability cultivation program for the GPs, including 3 aspects:medicine, teaching and research, which had been applied to GPs in this center since Oct 2013.
ResultsWith clinical ability cultivation were mainly further education and training through multiple ways for GPs to be responsible and capable of different clinical positions. On the basis of all-round development of clinical abilities, they were cultivated in special abilities like pediatrics, ophthalmology, etc.The number of the community residents′ outpatient visits was 52 080 in 2013, while in 2017 the visits increased to 62 043, and 44 089 residents signed family doctor service with the signing rate of 40.82%.GPs were cultivated in their teaching ability by participation in teaching qualification training, practice-based teaching, and further education classes, etc. From 2013 to 2017, the number of GPs teaching students increased from 51 to 181, and those qualified to teach increased from 27 to 41.Scientific research ability cultivation included practice in scientific research projects, and participation in scientific research trainings, meetings and exchanges, etc.The number of scientific research projects they participated in 2013 was 18, while during 2014-2017 the number was 25-36.
ConclusionThrough 3-year occupational ability training is preliminarily explored the appropriate occupational ability cultivation mode for GPs:multiple way cultivation of GPs′ clinical abilities and developing their special ability advantages on the basis of all-round development, and the application of science and teaching practice, incentive policies as well as training exchanges to update the GPs′ science and teaching abilities.
