Assessment and analysis on food safety credit rating for Shanghai food production enterprises in 2017

  • ObjectiveUsing "Food safety risk and credit ranking supervision measures of the food production enterprises in Shanghai"(The following is referred to as the "Measure") to rank the credit of the food production enterprises in Shanghai and to analyze the practical feasibility of the "Measure".
    MethodsFood production enterprises were evaluated annually on the basis of the 2017 food safety credit records of the 1 283 food production enterprises in Shanghai, including 1 125 general food production enterprises, 117 food additives production enterprises and 41 health food production enterprises.
    ResultsSix hundred and seventy enterprises (52.22%) were rated as trustworthy enterprises, 534 enterprises (41.62%) basic trustworthy enterprises, and 79 enterprises (6.16%) credit deficient enterprises.The ranking was directly influenced by whether enterprise credit files and evaluation standards were complete.
    ConclusionThe food production enterprises in Shanghai generally meet the requirements for being trustworthy and basic trustworthy.The evaluation basis and method need to be further improved.
