Abstract
The "Healthy Shanghai 2030 Program Outline" issued in September 2017 is a strategic deployment of the "Healthy China" agenda, which put people′s health in a prior strategic position, with higher demand for higher level, capability, quality and mode of public health services. It indicates that high-quality public health professionals are important guarantee for disease control institutions to provide good public health services. However, present China′s public health education system, teaching mode and content are inherited from the Soviet Union in the 1950s, and lack cultivation of students′ core competence of public health profession. Moreover, disease control and prevention institutions have neither systematic nor complete post-employment training for public health practitioners. It is difficult to improve their comprehensive quality in field work. Overall, college and vocational education cannot fully meet the developmental needs of today′s public health undertakings. Based on the purpose of improving the core competence of public health practitioners in the disease control and prevention institutions, this paper intends to explore practical and feasible programs to adjust public health practitioners′ college education and enhance vocational education.
