Practices and effects of safe motherhood in Shanghai

  • To summarize the main experience with practices and effects of safe motherhood management in Shanghai, and provide a basis for optimizing the core indicators and further popularizing the experience.A safe motherhood network was built through a series of targeted measures, such as "full coverage of maternal health care management""maternal risk screening, assessment, early warning and classified management""network construction of maternal near miss treatment", etc.The maternal mortality rate reduced to 3.01 per 100 000, and the infant mortality rate was 3.71‰ in Shanghai in 2017.It has promoted the continuous optimization and improvement of city-wide norms and technical guidelines for women and children′s health management, and all kinds of professionals at different levels have been trained to improve the ability of standardized service and management.In addition, it has optimized health education and improved maternal self-care awareness and ability.The effects of a series of safe motherhood management measures on optimization of core indicators were significant.Safe motherhood core indexes in Shanghai decrease steadily, which reaches the advanced level in developed countries or regions.
