Knowledge level survey on brucellosis prevention and treatment among medical workers in Baoshan District, Shanghai

ObjectiveTo ascertain the knowledge level of brucellous prevention and control among the medical workers in our district so as to provide the basis for brucellosis related training for medical workers.

MethodsA multi-stage sampling was done.And a face to face investigation was performed on medical workers by self-designed questionnaire.

ResultsA total of 206 medical workers were investigated.The general awareness rate of prevention and control knowledge concerning brucellosis was 85.07%, among which the awareness rate of "the clinical manifestation of brucellosis" was the highest (96.12%), and of "whether the brucellosis exists in the interpersonal spread" the lowest (70.39%).The average awareness rate of medical workers in community health service centers (87.50%) was higher than that of those in second-tier and third-tier hospitals (82.69%).The difference was statistically significant (χ²=11.247, P < 0.05).Moreover, with the increase of the educational levels of medical workers, the awareness rate showed an increasing trend (χ_趋势²=11.029, P < 0.05).The difference of the awareness rate of prevention and control knowledge concerning brucellosis existed in different age groups (χ²=16.414, P < 0.05) and different working length groups (χ²=13.779, P < 0.05), which was statistically significant.

ConclusionThe awareness rate of the knowledge of prevention and control concerning brucellosis is relatively high in the medical workers in our district.However, it is necessary to strengthen training of the medical workers from the second-tier and third-tier hospitals in relation to brucellosis prevention and control.
