Qualitative survey on internet using behavior among migrant workers′ children in Shanghai

  • ObjectiveTo explore the situation of internet using among migrant workers′ children in Shanghai.
    MethodsFocus group interviews in 48 students and in-depth individual interviews in 12 students from 6 schools were carried out to investigate the characteristics of their internet using and the impact on their life and study.
    ResultsThe internet usage among migrant workers′ children was rather widespread.The main purpose of their internet usage was seeking information, playing games, chatting and watching videos.Most parents had time limit for their children to surf the Internet.
    ConclusionSocial support is provided for migrant workers′ children to use internet.With children in use of internet, their migrant parents are advised to give them a correct guidance, and pay attention to cultivation of their good habits.
