Effect of home self-management model on postoperative patients with percutaneous coronary intervention

  • Objective To explore the effect of home self-management nursing model on patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods A total of 40 PCI postoperative patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly selected. And during the six months of home self-management intervention by means of centralized health guidance and telephone follow-ups, the nursing team did interventions on the subjects in relation to medications, diet, exercise, and control of risk factors. Then the patients were compared before and after the intervention in their awareness rate of rehabilitation knowledge in diet, drug use and health activities, and in satisfaction rate of compliance with doctor′s orders and the incidence of complications.
Results We issued questionnaires about the awareness rate of PCI rehabilitation knowledge among those 40 patients before and after the intervention, and the recovery rates of the questionnaires were both 100%.Before the intervention the awareness rate of patients′ rehabilitation knowledge was 65% according to the questionnaires and increased to 100% after the intervention, the difference being statistically significant (P < 0.05).The satisfaction rate of compliance was significantly increased after the intervention and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).The incidence of complications of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the non-intervention group during the same period and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
Conclusion The intervention model of self-management at home has obvious effects in improving patients′ awareness rate of rehabilitation knowledge and compliance with doctor′s orders, thus reducing the incidence of complications.
