Effect of diversified health education on self-management ability for peritoneal dialysis patients in suburb

  • Objective To explore the self-management ability and related complications impacted by diversified health education for peritoneal dialysis patients in suburbs.
    Methods Sampling convenience methods was used to select 100 cases of peritoneal dialysis catheterization in Department of Nephrology in Qingpu Branch of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University.Through three months of diversified health education the patients' self-management capacity and incidence of complications were compared before and after implementation of education.
    Results The patient′s self-management ability rose from 38.12±24.34 before education to 104.6±5.30 after education.The difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).The incidence of complications associated (peritonitis and dialysis tube plugging)with peritoneal dialysis decreased from 36 % before education to 8 % after education.The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
    Conclusion The diversified health education can effectively improve the self-management ability and decrease the incidence of complications for suburban peritoneal dialysis patients.Therefore, it is of great significance to carry out diversified health education for peritoneal dialysis patients.
