Comprehensive evaluation of physical health among primary and middle school students in Jinshan District of Shanghai, 2017

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of physical health of primary and middle school students in Jinshan District of Shanghai and the main diseases affecting them in order to provide scientific basis for developing health promotion strategies and measures.
    MethodsThe evaluation included seven kinds of diseases, such as poor eyesight, caries, anemia, intestinal helminth infection, obesity, malnutrition, organic diseases, etc.Following the deduction criteria foreach disease, the full score of 100 was considered to be healthy, less than 100 was unhealthy in different degrees; through the ranking of the total deduction points of diseases, the influence of diseases on students′ health was evaluated.
    ResultsThe total health rate of primary and middle school students in Jinshan District of Shanghai in 2017 was 13.38%.A comprehensive comparison of health rate, health score, and unhealthy degree showed that the health status of boys was worse than that of girls, and the junior high school students′ health status wasworse than that of primaryand high school students.According to the total deduction of diseases, the top five diseases that had the greatest impact on students′ health were organic diseases, severe visual impairment, obesity, overweight and dental caries.
    ConclusionComprehensive evaluation of physical health can comprehensively evaluate the impact of disease prevalence rate and hazard level on health.It is helpful for the relevant departments to evaluate the health status of students and the main diseases affecting them.
