Knowledge status and influencing factors in hypertension high-risk population in Huating Town, Jiading District of Shanghai

  • ObjectiveTo make analysis on the awareness of hypertension related knowledge and its influencing factors in high risk population in Shanghai, and to provide reference for effective prevention and control of high risk population in community.
MethodsIn Huating Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, screened by self-designed screening questionnaire, 321 people at high risk of hypertension were investigated. The contents of the survey included general demographic characteristics and related knowledge about hypertension and its prevention and control.Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors of hypertension knowledge awareness in high-risk groups.
ResultsA total of 321 cases of high risk of hypertension were investigated. The number of people who obtained eligible scores of information (correct answer >12 questions) was 150, accounting for 46.7% of the total. As to knowledge awareness, "hypertension may be progressing to tumor" and "hypertension may be progressing to renal insufficiency" was the lowest with the rate being 5.3% and 25.2%.The results of multifactor analysis showed that those with annual income of 40-79 thousand (OR=2.283, 95%CI:1.308~3.986) were more likely to have a higher awareness of hypertension-related knowledge.
ConclusionThe awareness of different types of hypertension related knowledge in high-risk people is different at the present stage. The awareness of hypertension related knowledge in those with low annual income is not good. The community staff should take the characteristics of different high-risk groups into consideration and conduct health education in different ways and different contents. As such, actions can help high risk population of hypertension obtain basic hypertension related knowledge, thereby reducing the prevalence of hypertension in the community.
