Awareness rate of core messages on tuberculosis prevention and control among psychiatric medical staff

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the awareness level of core messages on tuberculosis prevention and control among certified psychiatrists so as to provide a basis for formulating the work plan of health promotion and health education on tuberculosis among psychiatric staff.
MethodsA self-made questionnaire was used on the awareness rate of core messages on tuberculosis prevention and control (the questions in the questionnaire corresponding to those in 2016 version).A total of 319 psychiatric medical workers were interviewed face to face.
ResultsThe total awareness rate of all 5 core messages among psychiatric medical workers was 61.3% (977 /1 595).The total awareness rate of all 5 key messages among 56 male medical workers was 57.5% while that among 263 female medical workers was 62.1%, the difference having no statistic significance (χ2=2.02, P>0.05).The total awareness rate of all 5 key messages among 93 psychiatric doctors (68.2%) was far higher than that among 226 psychiatric nurses(58.4%), the difference having statistic significance (χ2=13.24, P < 0.01).The total awareness rate of all 5 core messages among 75 medical workers who had worked in TB ward (75.7%) was obviously higher than that among 244 medical workers (56.8%), the difference having statistic significance (χ2=43.31, P < 0.01).
ConclusionThe core messages on tuberculosis prevention and control should be popularized among psychiatric medical workers in order to provide scientific evidence for future work on tuberculosis prevention and control.
