Infectious disease absence among primary and secondary school students in Songjiang District of Shanghai during 2012-2016 academic year

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the absence due to infectious disease in Songjiang District of Shanghai so as to provide reference to improve the prevention and control of infectious diseases among primary and secondary school students.
    MethodsThe absence data on infectious disease was sorted out from the illness absence system.The number of absentees due to infectious diseases was found to be relatively concentrated in central urban areas.
    ResultsVaricella, hand-foot-and-mouth disease and scarlatina are the most common infectious diseases among students.The peak number of absent students related to infectious disease appeared in April, May, November, and December.
    ConclusionInvestigation of early symptoms and suspected infectious disease should be strengthened and so is the prevention and control of related infectious diseases.
