Clinical efficacy of biofeedback therapy combined with cognitive behavioral intervention for functional defecation disorder

  • ObjectiveTo explore the clinical efficacy of biofeedback therapy combined with cognitive behavioral intervention for functional defecation disorder.
    MethodsA series of 50 patients with functional defecation disorder were enrolled and divided into treatment group (n=26) and control group (n=24).The treatment group was treated with biofeedback therapy combined with cognitive behavioral intervention, and the control group was treated with biofeedback alone.The results of the improvement of constipation symptom scores and the health survey (SF-36) scores before and after treatment were recorded and compared between the two groups.
    ResultsThe total effective rate of constipation symptom score in the treatment group was 92.3% higher than that in the control group 70.8% (P < 0.05).The SF-36 scores of social function, emotional function and mental health of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05).
    ConclusionBiofeedback therapy combined with cognitive behavioral intervention therapy for functional defecation disorder can significantly improve patients′ clinical symptoms and their quality of life.
