History, development and current status of cancer registration in Shanghai

Shanghai is the first city in China to initiate and conduct cancer registration and reporting system in urban population.The Shanghai Cancer Registry is a whole population-based cancer registration and reporting system, including the collection of new malignant cancer cases, cancer death cases, as well as follow-up or survival data of cancer patients.Up to now, 46 years of standard, and complete cancer registration data have been accumulated.The registration data provide more detailed statistical evidence or basic information for the analysis and evaluation of the current epidemic of cancer, disease burden, long-term time trends or changes, and prevention and control effects of cancer in general population as well.It is of great significance for the development of scientific and reasonable strategies for cancer prevention and control in Shanghai.
