Syphilis infection and its related factors among fixed sexual partners with early syphilis in a sentinel hospital

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the infection status of male-to-female fixed partners with early syphilis, providing evidence for the prevention and treatment of syphilis.
MethodsStatistical analysis was conducted on data concerning patients diagnosed with early syphilis and their sexual partners in relation to their demographic and sexual behavior. Analysis was done concerning those receiving standard 1 year follow-up and willing to undergo investigations on both sides of the sexual partner notification intervention.
ResultsIt was found in the follow-up analysis that among the 127 fixed partners of early syphilis patients, 73 were detected positive for syphilis, accounting for 57.5%, of which the detection rate was 74.7% for women and 25.0% for men.Stratification analysis showed that for early syphilis patients, the incubation period, first and second stage accounted for 45.7%, 35.4% and 18.9%, respectively, and for their fixed sexual partners, accounted for 43.8%, 31.5% and 24.7%.The relevant factors of syphilis positive for fixed partners of syphilis patients were mainly low income, no active notification from sexual partners after their first medical visit, low education level, weekly sexual behavior more than 2 times.
ConclusionThe syphilis detection rate among the partners of the syphilis patients proves to be higher.Sexual partners should actively inform the other party so as to reduce the syphilis infection rate.
