Depression and anxiety status and its impact factors in floating population with tuberculosis in Jiading District of Shanghai

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the anxiety and depression status of floating population with tuberculosis in Jiading District of Shanghai in order to provide evidence-based psychological treatment in this regard.
    MethodsWe investigated the mental health status of 166 floating population with tuberculosis who were diagnosed from January 2015 to September 2015 by self-rating depression scale(SDS), self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and self-designed questionnaire, and made comparison with national norm and analysis on its influencing factors.
    ResultsThe occurrence rate of depression and anxiety among the pulmonary tuberculosis patients were respectively 20.5 percent and 13.3 percent.The average scores of SDS and SAS in the patients were respectively (40.78±12.62) points and (37.67±11.70) points, which were both significantly higher than those of Chinese people norm (P < 0.05).The main causes for the anxiety included female sex, avoidance of sociality and having no other subsidy except governmental relief.The anxiety and depression status of floating population with tuberculosis is associated with female sex, lack of sociality and subsidy.
    ConclusionThe mental health status of floating population with tuberculosis is relatively poor.Therefore, mental therapy should be provided to these patients at the same time when they are under medical treatment.
