Advances in research of correlationship between oral microbes and oral diseases, intestinal flora and intestinal diseases

  • The diseases caused by microbial infections arouse growing concerns these days. With progress in microbiome technologies such as high-throughput sequencing technique, it became possible to analyze microbes that were previously hard to cultivate. The role of human oral microbial in the occurrence and development of systemic diseases has gradually become prominent. Here we focus on the human oral microbes and their relationship with oral and extra-oral diseases, especially their involvement in the pathogenesis of digestive diseases. And we elaborate some specific related diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic tumor and colorectal cancer, which have clear correlations with oral microbes found in previous studies, providing references for their further research in relation to diagnosis and treatment of systemic diseases.
