Analysis of causes of death among residents in 2010 in Wujiaochang town of Shanghai City

  • Objective To ascertain the mortality level and death causes and the characteristics among inhabitants in Wujiaochang town of Shanghai Yangpu District and provide the reference for making preventive methods.Methods The analysis of death causes was done on the basis of the data on disease surveillance in Yangpu District Wujiaochang town area in 2010,and the classification of death causes was confined with ICD-10.Results The death rate was 633.72 per 105, and the sequence of death causes was heart and brain vascular diseases, cancer, respiratory diseases, injuries and poisoning, endocrine system diseases. The total proportion of the five leading death causes was 88.31% in all death causes.Conclusion The chronic diseases and injures were the main causes of death in Wujiaochang town area in 2010. Therefore, health education and behavioral intervention must be carried out. Inhabitants should be encouraged to change unhealthy behavior and enhance safety awareness,and reduce the incidence of chronic diseases injury, so as to effectively reduce the mortality rate of residents.
