Real-Time PCR combined with microagglutination test for early diagnosis of legionella infection

  • Objective The aim of this study was to assess the combination of Real-Time PCR and microagglutination test as a rapid diagnostic method. Methods Serum samples were tested by methods of MAT and Real-Time PCR.The results were compared, and the consistence and difference explained. Results On the basis of processing the same sample, the two methods reflected different information separately. The concordance rate of MAT and Real-Time PCR was 66.7%, and the contradiction between the two could be well explained. Conclusion The sample used in the two methods was easy to be obtained, and the two methods were simple to be used with time saved. The two methods combined could be used as an early diagnostic method for Legionella.
