A systematic review on prevalence rate of diabetes in 2001-2010 in China

  • Objective To systematically review the prevalence rate of diabetes from 2001 to 2010 in China. Methods Forty eight researches were selected from the database of CBM, CNKI and PubMed according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria and reviewed systematically. Overall prevalence rate and its 95%CI were calculated by using Meta-Disc and forest plots was drawn by using microsoft excel. Results The prevalence rate of diabetes in the population at the age of 18 and over was 6.19%(5.62% for male and 6.03% for female). In northwest China, the prevalence rate of diabetes was 7.90%, while in north 2.62%. Conclusion The prevalence rate of diabetes in China has a tendency of increase in recent years, and the preventive and curative strategies to control diabetes need to be further studied. A methodological guideline for epidemical survey on chronicle diseases should be established in China.
