Epedemiological analysis of sexually transmitted diseases in 2008—2009 in Taizhou Prefecture

Objective To ascertain the status quo and the law in the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in Taizhou Prefecture, and provide information for STD control and prevention.Methods The surveillance data on STD from 2008 to 2009 in Taizhou Prefecture was analyzed.Results STD mainly consisted of syphilis, gonorrhea and condyloma acuminatum.Of the venereal cases, 97.1 percent were local residents.The sex ratio between male and female patients was 0.83:1, of whom the patients aged 20 to 39 years accounted for 54.9% and farmers, the unemployed and workers 63.8%.Conclusion STDs were relatively serious in Taizhou Prefecture.The measures for STD control and prevention are urgently needed, especially for the population aged 20 to 40 years.
