Epidemic analysis on HIV infection among men who have sex with men attending voluntary counseling and testing clinic in Hongkou District of Shanghai from 2010 to 2015

  • Objective To understand the characteristics and HIV infection epidemiology among men who have sex with men(MSM) at voluntary counseling and testing(VCT) clinic in Hongkou District, Shanghai. Methods Data of MSM counseling and testing in Hongkou District from 2010 to 2015 were downloaded from China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention and analyzed. Results From 2010 to 2015, a total of 1 411 cases received HIV test among 1 451 MSM attending VCT clinic, among which 153 were found HIV positive. Out of 1 451 MSM, there were 867 cases aged from 21 to 30(59.8%), 1 217 cases unmarried (83.9%), and 1 011 cases with education background of junior college or above (69.6%), and 958 cases having HIV testing experience with negative result (66.0%). Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that, compared to those junior middle school educated and having no HIV testing experience, MSM who were senior high school educated and having HIV testing experience were less likely to be HIV positive(OR=0.52, 95%CI:0.29-0.94; OR=0.51, 95%CI:0.36-0.72). Conclusion There is an increasing tendency among MSM counseling and testing HIV in Hongkou District, and the prevalence of HIV infection of MSM is higher than the total population. Education level and HIV testing experience are significantly associated with HIV infection.
