Psychological intervention on community cancer patients' quality of life

  • Objective To evaluate the effects of psychological intervention on the quality of life of community cancer patients.Methods A total of 225 cancer patients from Dinghai community were randomized into intervention group(n=115) and control group(n=110).The SCL-90 scales and the SF-36 scales were used to measure psychological health and the quality of life.The control group received community routine rehabilitation,and the intervention group received both psychological intervention and community routine rehabilitation.After 9 months, patients' psychological health and quality of life were assessed.Results Before the intervention, patients' SCL-90 and SF-36 scores of the two groups were significantly lower than those of norm group.After 9 months, the psychological health and quality of life in the intervention group were better than those in the control group.Conclusion The cancer patients in the community all have psychological disorders and poor quality of life. Psychological intervention can improve their mental health and quality of life.
