Sleep quality influenced by sophomores' time management disposition and their sleep types in a university

    Abstract:
ObjectiveTo investigate the impact of sophomores' time management disposition and their sleep types on their sleep quality.
MethodsAn e-Questionnaire was conducted for all sophomores in a university in Shanghai (Songjiang Campus) using the Adolescent Time Management Disposition Scale (ATMD) and the School Sleep Habits Survey (SSHS).
ResultsThe average sleep time of the students was(7.6±0.9)hours on school days; 64.0% students slept less than 8 hours on school days; and the two types of sleep, i.e. late-bed early-rise and late-bed late-rise, had higher detection rates for sleep less than 8 hours (100.0%, 84.4%) and higher scores of sleep problems compared with the other two types of sleep.Students with high time management disposition scores had fewer sleep problems (P < 0.05).Sleep types and time management disposition were independent predictors of sleep quality.
ConclusionThe disposition of time management and type of sleep are independent factors that affect the sleep quality of sophomores.Improving the ability of time management and changing sleep habits can help to improve the sleep quality of sophomores.
