Abstract:
ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of dementia intervention in the community for the elderly in Jing′an District of Shanghai, so as to improve the management system, the service connotation and the intervention strategy.
MethodsBased on the principle of information saturation, a qualitative study was applied to conduct in-depth personal interviews with participants in the community-based intervention program for dementia.
ResultsThe participants′ awareness of symptoms to senile dementia, of influences to patients and the family, of prevention and therapy to senile dementia was improved for elderly after the intervention services.The effectiveness of the intervention was well accepted in terms of their cognitive function and life skills, their social function, and personal feelings.There was a high satisfaction and recommendation for the intervention service, too.
ConclusionThe effect of intervention in this project is remarkable.The intervention has been applauded by participants and has created a good social atmosphere for the prevention and treatment of the elderly with dementia, and achieves good social benefits.
