Abstract:
ObjectiveTo analyze the characteristics of injury death in the elderly over 60 years old in Chongming District of Shanghai.
MethodsDeathReg 2002 and SPSS 16.0 were adopted for summary and analysis on the data from Chongming Cause-of-Death Registry System and the cause-of-death survey.
ResultsThe injury mortality of the elderly aged 60 years and older was 148.45/105, and injury was ranked fourth among death causes.There was no significant difference between male and female mortality(χ2=0.905, P>0.05), mortality increasing with age(χ2=29.923, P < 0.05).Accidental fall was the leading cause of injury death for the elderly; the first cause of death for elderly men was traffic accidents, and for elderly women was accidental falls.
ConclusionInjuries become a major threat to the lives and health of the elderly in Chongming District, so effective preventive measures should be taken to prevent and control the occurrence of elderly injuries.
