Abstract:
Objective To ascertain epidemiologcal features of infectious diarrhea in Xuhui District of Shanghai and provide evidence for prevention and control of the disease.
Methods Epidemiological analysis was made on data from infectious diarrhea cases which were treated at intestinal tract clinic in 6 hospitals in 2011. PCR method was used for the detection of common diarrhea pathogens, then ST/LT toxin gene detection and drug sensitivity test were made for ETEC positive strains.
Results A total of 54 strains of the pathogens were detected and the detection rate was 9.31%, of which ETEC accounted for 57.41% of the positive strains. The detection rate of the pathogens in people aged 20-39 was the highest (14.15%). ST was the main type of ETEC (ST > LT > ST/LT), and cefotaxime was the most sensitive drug to ETEC.
Conclusion Infectious diarrhea is mainly caused by ETEC in Xuhui District, which should be given sufficient attention.
